Deep Seal Diving!

Tynemouth's Blue Reef Aquarium is inviting visitors to discover the secrets of the underwater world during a special Divers Weekend event on Saturday, October 13th and Sunday, October 14th.
Organised in association with Newcastle-based Aquanorth Diving Centre, the weekend aims to provide a fascinating introduction to both the sport of diving and the rich variety of North Sea marine habitats.
Local diving school staff will be on hand throughout the weekend to offer an introduction to diving in the North East, as well as bringing in various pieces of scuba equipment for you to look at.
Among the highlights of the weekend is a planned demonstration dive in the award-winning aquarium's giant new Seal Cove display.
Seal Cove is home to four captive-bred harbour seals and the divers will take the opportunity to do a spot of underwater window cleaning once they've taken the plunge in the 650,000 litre exhibit.
Blue Reef curator Zahra d'Aronville is also a keen scuba diver and she hopes the event will both raise awareness of the rich marine habitat on our doorstep and encourage more people to get involved in diving.
"Our diving demonstrations always prove incredibly popular with visitors and we're looking forward to welcoming a whole new generation of potential new diving recruits over the weekend.
"The chance to watch the divers in Seal Cove via the giant underwater viewing windows should be a real crowd puller," she added.
Visitors will also be given the chance to find out more about the science of diving as well as discovering the hidden beauty of the Newcastle coastline during the two-day event.
