Toddler Tuesdays

May 1, 2013

Big bellied seahorses-1Hastings Blue Reef Aquarium is re-launching a scheme to encourage more young families to visit during the week.

As part of the ‘Toddler Tuesdays’ offer, a parent with a toddler under three will get a free hot drink and slice of cake for their £8.50 admission.

The offer is valid on Tuesdays during term time and all children aged under three get in for free.

To redeem the offer guests MUST mention it to staff when they purchase their tickets at the admissions till.

Visitors taking advantage of the scheme will also be among the first to see the aquarium’s new colony of captive-bred baby seahorses.

The 20 seahorses are a mixture of Australian big bellied seahorses and our very own UK species the spiny seahorses and they were all bred at their sister attraction the Bristol Aquarium.

Blue Reef Aquarium’s Chris Ireland said:  “Seahorses are always incredibly popular and the fact that we now have a colony of more than 20 babies here, all of which have been captive bred, is very exciting.

“People are also often surprised to learn there are actually seahorses living in British waters. In fact the UK has two species; the spiny and the short-snouted seahorse and we’re hoping the youngsters we’re looking after will eventually breed themselves and help safeguard the wild populations,” he added.

The ‘Toddler Tuesdays’ offer will operate during school term time only and staff are hoping the scheme will help spread the number of visitors more evenly throughout the week while also offering a great value, off-peak visit for local residents.

“Young families love the aquarium as it offers a safe and controlled environment with lots of visual stimulation for youngsters.

“We’re hoping ‘Toddler Tuesdays’ will become a regular date in local people’s social diary.

“Many of our displays are designed specially for children to enjoy and we’re also baby-friendly with high chairs and microwaves on site,” he added.
