Blue Reef Get Environmental Art Attack

Newquay’s beach side aquarium has teamed up with a local artist to help promote litter pollution issues.
The environmental inspired artwork on display now at the aquarium incorporates beach litter with marine animals to give out a message about the effects of litter in our oceans.
Cornish artist Lindsey Keates from Redruth Tidalmarks Studio is Blue Reef Aquariums new resident artist and is hoping her artwork will raise awareness and educate people about the importance of the conservation of our planet.
Linsey attended Falmouth Art College where she gained a BTECH Diploma in Art and Design. She then moved to Hartlepool to work in the textile industry liked to greeting cards, fashion designs and colour theory. Here Lindsey was able to travel to Paris, London and Florence to gain inspiration and trends. From these experiences Lindsey went on to develop a surf wear fashion range. With the environment being predominantly Lindsey’s focus she went on to teaching and working with young people’s development.
Now residing back in Cornwall with her family Lindsey is working with schools and the community to educate through art on the pollution and the effects of carbon footprint.
“Being a Mum of two young children makes you realise the future of our planet is in their hands. It’s up to us to educate and pass on what is currently happening and the importance of conservation and sustainability.”
100,000 turtles and marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales and seals, are killed by plastic marine litter every year around the world. Plastics are the most common man made objects sighted at sea, with 18,000 pieces of plastic litter floating on every square kilometre of the world’s oceans.
Blue Reef Aquarium are reducing their single use plastics and working with suppliers for more environmentally friendly products where possible.
You can visit the art exhibition in the Blue Reef Café daily from 10:00 am to 4:30pm with free entry.
