Visitors to Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium will be able uncover the secrets behind the myths and legends of the deep as part of a special October Half Term event which runs from Saturday, October 25th until Sunday, November 2nd .
‘Sea Monsters – Myths and Legends’ celebrates sea monsters, past and present, including Morgawr, Cornwall’s very own sea monster that many people claim to have sighted off the Cornish coast.
Interactive displays and special sea monster themed talks will provide more information about famous tales of the deep and there will be exhibitions featuring monstrous myths and legends throughout history, infamous hoaxes, cases of mistaken identity and even modern reports of sea monsters.
Many of the aquarium’s displays will be host to some spooky pumpkins as part of a Halloween hunt and there will be a terribly tricky quiz trail to test your nerves.
Any visitors brave enough to turn up in full Halloween fancy dress will get a £2 discount off their entry admission.
Blue Reef’s Sophia Medine said: “The idea of sea monsters has both fascinated and horrified humans since the dawn of time.
“Even today there are hundreds of reported sea monster sightings each year and, as the mysterious depths of the oceans are gradually explored, more and more amazing creatures previously unknown to science are being discovered.
“In fact some of these new discoveries are weirder than even the most incredible of sea monster stories!” she added.
