Visitors to Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium will be able to find out all about the egg-citing world of water babies over the Easter holidays (March 27th – April 13th).
‘Nautical Nippers’ features workshops, arts and crafts, competitions and hands on encounters dedicated to the fascinating ways different marine life come into the world.
You’ll be able to come face to face with a selection of the aquarium’s very own marine babies in the Blue Reef Nursery.
Among those on display will be baby lumpsuckers, seahorses, boxfish and cowfish along with breeding colonies of shrimp and clownfish.
There will also be an ‘Eggs-plorers Egg Trail’ leading younger visitors on an exciting hunt around the aquarium to locate hidden eggs.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Lucy Hackett said: “As well as getting to grips with some dried-out egg-cases, visitors will also be able to take a look at one with an unborn bull huss shark actually wriggling about inside it in our Blue Reef Nursery displays.
“Marine babies come in pretty much every imaginable form. Some species look nothing like their parents while others, like seahorses, look like exact miniature replicas”.
“There are even some, like jellyfish, which actually go through a series of different stages in their lifecycles with each one looking entirely unlike the next”.
“Our aim is to provide a fun, informative and entertaining insight into the marine world which will hopefully inspire youngsters to find out more
about the natural world and the wonders of the local marine environment,” she added.
