Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium is inviting loved-up couples to enjoy a romantic stroll through their underwater ‘tunnel of love’ as part of Valentine’s Day celebrations (Saturday, February 11th – Tuesday, February 14th).
The Southsea wildlife attraction will be handing out bags of sweet, featuring a pair of clownfish kissing, to all couples visiting during the event.
Staff will also be romantically re-decorating their underwater walkthrough tunnel and temporarily re-branding it into the ‘Tunnel of Love’.
“Aquariums are traditionally one of the favourite locations for first dates; apparently they’re seen as being less intimidating than taking someone out to a more formal dinner and allow for more conversation than a trip to the local cinema,” said Blue Reef’s Hannah Butt.
“Over the years, we have been the venue for hundreds of first dates, dozens of engagements and lots of wedding proposals.
“As well as all the Valentine’s Day decorations, we will also be adorning the tunnel with a selection of selfie props for visitors and a member of staff will be available for half an hour slots at 11.15am and 2.15pm to take pictures of the couples,” she added.
From the hidden world of UK waters, Blue Reef, Portsmouth transports visitors to the spectacular ‘underwater gardens’ of the Mediterranean and the stunning beauty of tropical waters – home to everything from seahorses and puffer fish to living corals and tropical sharks.
At the aquarium’s heart is a giant tropical ocean tank where an underwater walkthrough tunnel offers incredibly close encounters with a huge range of exotic coral reef species.
More than 40 naturally-themed displays reveal the sheer variety of life in the deep from native sharks and rays to the cute otters and colourful reptiles and amphibians!
