Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium is to celebrate Armed Forces Day (Saturday, June 29th 2013) with a special offer for all military personnel, past and present.
Armed Forces Day is a nationwide celebration of the contributions of those who have served in the British Armed Forces.
All military personnel and veterans will be given free entry to the attraction on Saturday, June 29th when accompanied by two other full-paying admissions.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Jennifer Atkinson said: “Portsmouth has such a rich history with the armed forces and there are a huge number of armed forces personnel living nearby so we really wanted to join in with the Armed Forces Day celebrations.
“It’s our small way of expressing our gratitude to all those brave men and women who help protect and defend us and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more service personnel through our doors in the coming years.
“The offer is valid to all serving service personnel and veterans whom simply have to provide some sort of ID at reception to qualify for their discounted admission,” she added.
Armed Forces Day (formerly Veterans’ Day) is an annual event celebrated in late June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.
Veterans’ Day was first observed in 2006. Although an official event, it is not a public holiday in the UK. The name was changed to Armed Forces Day in 2009.
This year’s main event is taking place in Nottingham, however there are numerous other events and activities being organised throughout the UK.
