Visitors to Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium will be able to create their very own jellyfish hats, funky fish and octopus artworks as part of a new ‘arts and crafts’ event taking place this weekend (January 30th – 31st).
Aimed mainly at families with younger children, there will be three arty events taking place daily at 11am, 1pm and 3pm in the Southsea attraction’s education room.
Once completed visitors will have the choice of either taken their artistic creations home with them or having them put on display in the aquarium’s own exhibition area.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Hannah Butt said: “The artistic members of our team will be on hand to take younger visitors through the different designs step by step while older children will be provided with instructions and then encouraged to get creative themselves.
“We’ve all been hard at work trying our hand at the jellyfish hats and have come up with some fairly extraordinary headwear!
“The event is free of charge to anyone with a valid admission ticket to the aquarium and we’re hoping it will provide lots of fun; both in the making and the modelling!” she added.
From the hidden world of UK waters, Blue Reef, Portsmouth transports visitors to the spectacular ‘underwater gardens’ of the Mediterranean and the stunning beauty of tropical waters – home to everything from seahorses and puffer fish to living corals and tropical sharks.
At the aquarium’s heart is a giant tropical ocean tank where an underwater walkthrough tunnel offers incredibly close encounters with a huge range of exotic coral reef species.
More than 40 naturally-themed displays reveal the sheer variety of life in the deep from native sharks and rays to the cute otters and colourful reptiles and amphibians!
