PLUS – each weekend has its own theme, so you can come along and discover an ocean full of fishy facts from the motion in the ocean to shark tales. Get hands on in our Rockpool Encounters, or come along for some Beach Club Fun and meet Charlie the Clownfish! With special guests, quizzes, competitions and more – Festival of Fishes is fun for the whole family this summer at Blue Reef Aquarium Portsmouth!
10:30 – Make Your Own Recycled Fish (craft activity)
Have a go at creating your own fish from recycled materials – you can even add it to our Festival of Fishes gallery!
11:00 – Solent Seas Talk
Learn all about our local waters and their inhabitants. There’s even a Spotters Guide and a quiz to take along while you explore the zone.
11:30 – Rockpool Encounter
Our most popular activity – get up close with some of Blue Reef’s most loved residents, like our crabs and starfish! You can learn all about what goes on within rocky reefs, and ask any questions you like in this interactive session.
12:00 – Tropical Treasures Talk
Explore the beauty of the tropics in this talk, taking place in our Tropical Zone – with new exhibits! Learn all about the deeper ocean, and what goes on in the water. There’s even a Spotters Guide and a quiz too!
1:00 – Marine Fossil Digging
Have a go at some archaeology and take part in our fossil digging session – you can find genuine fossils from the festival of fishes that are now extinct (…and you can even take some home)!
2:00 – Otter Talk and Feed
Come along and see Ralph and Selma having their lunch (and causing a lot of mischief in the process!). Our expert aquarists are on hand to answer any questions you may have about our cheeky little siblings.
2:30 – Freshwater Fun Talk
Another exciting talk from one of our themed zones – again accompanied with a Spotters Guide and quiz! Learn all about the water beyond the oceans such as rivers and lakes, and the fascinating creatures that live there.
3:00 – Beach Club Fun
Get stuck in and active with some Beach Club Fun! There is a different activity every day, from dance parties to games – and there’s even special appearances from Charlie the Clownfish! Please note, in the case of poor weather, we will bring the fun indoors with an activity in our Education Room.
3:30 – Shark Talk
One of our personal favourites! Did you know we have five species of shark at the aquarium? Of course, our famous Blacktip Reef Sharks, but we also have other lesser-known sharks like Dwarf Nurse Sharks and Catfish! Learn all about these renowned predators, and why they are our friends.
4:00 – Motion in the Ocean
A Festival of Fishes debut! Learn all about the different movements that happen beneath the waves – from migration to hunting, a lot goes on in the waters below!
