Portsmouth’s Blue Reef Aquarium is staging a spectacular Pirates’ Weekend celebration with live music, fancy dress and Pirate School for the little pirates in your family! (July 13th – 14th 2013).
On Sunday members of the renowned Samba Reggae band Batala Portsmouth will be performing at the aquarium dressed as pirates and there will be special pirate activities all weekend, and don’t forget, kids in pirate fancy dress go free!*
Blue Reef’s Jen Atkinson said: “Our pirates’ events are always really popular so we’ve decided to really go for it this time round.
“We’ve enlisted the help of Batala Portsmouth to entertain visitors on Sunday. It wasn’t too hard as our boss is actually a member of the band and will hopefully be joining in the performances.
Batala is an authentic style of Brazilian Samba Reggae and was founded by a Brazilian named Giba Concalves in 1997 in Paris. Batala Portsmouth was founded in 2001 by Paulo Garcia, a visiting Brazilian student and is the UK’s original Batala band.
As well as all the aquatic displays – including the giant tropical ocean tank, the predators tank and the spectacular living coral reef display – visitors will also be able to take part in treasure trails and special guided tours around the aquarium accompanied by staff in pirate fancy dress.
