Baby Monkeys at Blue Reef Tynemouth

We have welcomed two new faces. The baby Marmosets were born at the aquarium and can now be seen in the monkey enclosure. The babies were born earlier this month and have settled into their new environment.

These cute new twins are smaller then your hand and are slowly developing their own personalities.

Unlike other monkeys, marmosets almost always give birth to identical twins, which are then carried around on their father’s back. These two are the latest new arrivals after the birth of their brothers and sister last year.

Their progress is closely monitored by the highly trained team at the aquarium who ensure that their development is on track.

Head of displays, Terry McKeone said “We are delighted to welcome these two new marmosets to Tynemouth.

The babies are both fit and healthy and we can’t wait to watch them develop.”

He added, “Our growing family of monkeys are a popular attraction and the visitors who have seen the two additions so far have loved them!”

The new monkeys can be seen at Blue Reef Tynemouth every day and you can find out more about them and the other species of monkeys on display at the daily talk and feed.
