Blue Reef Aquarium Tynemouth seeks a Displays Supervisor

About the Role

The responsibilities of the Displays Supervisor will be varied, challenging, but extremely rewarding. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Zoological Team to ensure the team achieve the highest standard of animal care and husbandry.

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing displays and exhibits – promoting public education and awareness in relation to conservation and delivering a memorable and entertaining experience to our guests. The role will also entail hands-on work including caring for over 40 exhibits including small Primates, Otters and Harbour Seals as well of hundreds of species of Marine Life in addition to Supervisory Duties.

This role allows you to be creative through the development of the displays and delivery of public and educational workshops, tours, talks and presentations.

As a key part of our aquarium management team you will be required to carry out some duty management. This post is full time, with weekend shifts allocated on a rota basis.

This is full time post working 5 days over 7 and includes regular weekends and bank holidays.

About Blue Reef Aquarium, Tynemouth

Blue Reef Aquarium, located on the North East coast is home to an array of animals in over 40 naturally themed exhibits from around the world from the British coast, the Mediterranean, Coral Reef and the Tropical Rainforest

Exhibits include an 800,000 litre Seal Pool which is home to 4 resident Harbour Seals as well as a Marine Rescue Unit, working to rescue sick and injured seals along our coast line for rehabilitation and release.

Blue Reef Tynemouth is also home to a pair of Asian Short Clawed Otters and some small Primates as well a 160,000 litre ocean tunnel exhibit.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and approachable person with a passion for marine life to join our energetic and vibrant team.

About You

You should have at least 4 years experience including working with Pinipeds and small Mammals and have knowledge of both marine and freshwater systems.

You will have infectious enthusiasm for creating stunning and innovative displays and keen to share knowledge with your team and guests.

A degree or equivalent in a relevant biological science is preferred, but previous relevant experience in the visitor attractions sector is essential.

You will have a positive attitude and thrive in a customer focused environment. You need to adapt to a variety of situations and be able to respond to customers needs while promoting all aspects of our aquarium. You will have excellent communication skills having the ability to retain and present key and interesting information about our attraction.
