Bull Huss Sharks at the Blue Reef Aquarium!

A rare coloured Bull Huss (Scyliorhinus stellaris) is on display at Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium.
The rusty orange creature belonging to the shark family and also known as a Nursehound or Greater Spotted Catshark, can now be seen by visitors to the aquarium in the native zone with other species found on our Cornish waters.
Helly Jones, Aquarist at Blue Reef Aquarium said: “It’s very rare to see a Bull Huss of this colour. They are generally a sandy brown or greyish brown colour with a white underside.”
The Bull Huss joins 2 other sharks of the same species in the native exhibit displaying the wonders of our Cornish seas.
Bull Huss can grow up to 1.6 meters long and can usually be identified by having larger spots than the closely related small spotted catshark. They are generally found among rocks and algae at a depth of 20 to 60 meters of the Atlantic Ocean.
