BLUE REEF UNVEILS FINDING NEMO TANK

Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium has unveiled a new display dedicated to the stars of Finding Nemo.
The new 500-litre display has been deliberately created for younger visitors to enjoy and features a host of the real life fish which inspired the film’s characters.
Among the exotic species on display are humbug damselfish, royal grammas, yellow tang, porcupine puffer, bannerfish, starfish and, of course, clown fish. These species have been specifically chosen because they are all the fish that Nemo encounters when he arrives in the dentist’s tank.
In addition to the colourful plants and rockwork there is also a wrecked pirate ship along with a skull and a volcano, just like the tank in the film.
Blue Reef’s Sophia Medine said: “The new display has been deliberately positioned so it is at a child’s eye-level and is filled with a variety of brightly coloured fish species which are familiar to youngsters.
“Finding Nemo has had a huge effect on our visitors. Everyone now knows what a clown fish looks like and is much more aware of the incredible variety of creatures found in the world’s oceans”.
“We’re hoping to use the film’s amazing popularity as a springboard to get youngsters more interested in the marine world in general”.
“When they see Nemo and the other characters are actually based on real creatures it encourages them to relate much more closely to the other marine creatures we have here at the aquarium and also those living around our shores,” she added.
