Rescued Turtle Being Treated in Newquay

On Friday 8th December a stranded sea turtle was discovered by a member of the public on Holywell Bay beach.
The juvenile turtle was then transported to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay where it is now receiving round the clock treatment.
Displays supervisor Lara Heaney said “When the turtle arrived at the aquarium we could see there was damage to the shell and the turtle appeared to be extremely weak and dehydrated. The recent stormy weather and strong currents could have possibly caused the turtle harm and to become stranded on the beach.”
Now being treated and cared for by the Blue Reef’s aquarist team, the turtle is responding well and feeding regularly.
“There has been an initial response from the turtle who has been feeding and showing signs of getting stronger. Although it is still very early days we are hopeful for the turtle’s survival.” Lara added

If you find a stranded turtle or any other marine animal in distress, report to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue 24hr hotline 01825 765546.
