Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium is carrying on the theme from the recent Art8 Festival by hosting a ‘Creative Creatures’ event over the May Half Term holidays (May 23rd – 31st).
Staff at the Towan Promenade wildlife attraction are inviting visitors to get creative by using the aquarium’s aquatic inhabitants as inspiration.
Among the activities on offer will be designing the scales of colourful tropical fish, a fishy portrait competition and adding a personal touch to a variety of life size ‘colour-me-in’ fish tanks.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Lucy Hackett said: “Everyone here was inspired by the creativity on show throughout the Art8 Festival and we thought it would be a lovely idea to use the aquarium as inspiration to create artworks of our own.
The sheer beauty, diversity, colour, shape and texture of our aquatic residents combined with the movement and reflections from the water are truly extraordinary and we’re hoping they will serve as inspiration for our visitors to get creative,” she added
Alongside the artistic activities, visitors will also be able to discover the creative ways in which the Blue Reef creatures have learnt to hunt, hide, survive and thrive in the wild as part of an all-new ‘The Art of Survival’ quiz trail.’
“Many of the most unusual or striking attributes of our aquatic inhabitants are as a direct result of reacting to their environment and evolving the most efficient ways to either hunt or hide in it,” said Lucy.
“We see them as beautiful colours or amazing shapes but to the creatures themselves they’re literally a matter of life or death,” she added.
